This beta brings a frosty new cave biome full of icicles and ice crystals. A new zombie called the Frostbite can freeze you with its attacks. There are also lots of fixes for things like Realms downloads and the main menu.

What changed in beta 26.60.29?

Biomes

Ice Caves are new caves that appear under cold areas.
They are mostly made of Packed Ice and Calcite.
You can find icicles hanging from the ceiling and big ones on the ground.
Ice Crystals grow on the ground and light up the cave.
Strays and Frostbites can spawn there along with normal cave mobs.

Blocks

Ice Crystals are new light blocks that look like Amethyst Clusters.
They break if you remove the block they sit on.
Icicles hang from Packed Ice and can fall and hurt you if it is bright enough.
Icicles can grow up to 5 blocks long when pointing down.
They break if light shines on them or if they are in the Nether.

Mobs

Frostbite is a new zombie that throws ice balls and freezes you with melee hits.
It spawns in cold places and can stand on Powder Snow.
It turns into a normal Zombie if it stays underwater too long.
Zombies and Husks turn into Frostbites when they are in Powder Snow.
Frostbite drops Rotten Flesh and Ice Balls.

Gameplay

The Freezing effect makes you shake, jump lower, and take damage over time.
Leather Armor stops you from freezing, like with Powder Snow.
Mobs take extra damage from Freezing.
You can brew Potions of Freezing using Ice Balls.
You can make Arrows of Freezing by dipping Arrows into a Cauldron with Potion of Freezing.
Ice Balls are thrown by Frostbites, deal 4 damage, and break on impact.

Interface

The main menu has a new look and runs better.
The Marketplace Wishlist now updates right away when you add or remove items.
Fixed some typos in error messages.
Added a 'Marketplace Storage' bar in the storage menu on some devices.

Realms

World downloads are now much faster and more reliable.
Added a help guide for Realm owners and admins.

Stability

Fixed a crash when holding an invalid photo.
Fixed players getting stuck on the 'Generating World' screen when pausing during dimension travel.
Fixed a bug where joining a friend's world could load newer resources than the world uses.
Fixed a problem with level data strings growing forever.
Fixed Redstone dust not showing the climb up the side of a block.
Fixed an Android bug where the Disclosure pop-up could not be used.

How to join the Minecraft beta

Android: Open Minecraft in the Google Play Store, scroll down to “Join the beta” and tap Join. The beta replaces your normal Minecraft after the next update. To leave, tap Leave in the same place.

iPhone & iPad: The beta is called Minecraft Preview and runs through Apple’s TestFlight app. Places are limited and open now and then, so it is often full.

Windows: Install Minecraft Preview from the Minecraft Launcher. It is a separate app with its own worlds, so your normal game stays as it is.
