Most install problems with a Minecraft APK come from the same few things. Check this list before you tap Install and you will avoid nearly all of them.
1. Pick the right file: Install over or Clone
Every version on GetMCPE has two Android files with the same features:
- Install over replaces the Minecraft on your phone. It uses the same app slot as the official game.
- Clone is a separate app. It installs next to the Minecraft you already have. Each version's Clone is its own app, so a newer Clone is added as one more app instead of updating the old one.
Both files work on 64-bit and 32-bit phones.
2. Do you have Minecraft from Google Play?
Then the Install over file cannot replace it. Android only lets an app be updated by a file from the same publisher, and the Play version is published by Mojang. Get the Clone, or uninstall the Play version first. See how to fix "App not installed" for the details.
3. Think about your worlds first
Uninstalling Minecraft deletes the worlds saved inside the app. If you have worlds you want to keep, install the Clone. It does not touch your current Minecraft or its worlds.
Worlds do not move between apps by themselves. A world you start in the Clone stays in the Clone.
4. Android 12L or newer
The current Minecraft APKs need Android 12L or newer, which on most phones means Android 13 or newer. Check in Settings, then About phone. On older Android versions the installer shows "There was a problem parsing the package". See that guide.
5. At least 3 GB of free space
The APK is about 1.1 GB, and Android needs extra room while it installs. With too little space the install fails.
6. Allow installs from your browser
When you open the APK for the first time, Android asks you to allow Install unknown apps for the browser or file manager you downloaded it with. Tap Settings in that prompt, turn the switch on, go back, and tap Install.
7. Google Play Protect may show a warning
Play Protect can warn about any app that does not come from Google Play. If you want to go ahead, the option to continue is usually under More details.
After installing
- Sign in with your Microsoft account to wear the unlocked capes and emotes.
- If Minecraft opens and the new features are missing, the install did not go through and you are still on your old Minecraft. See point 2.
