Short answer: The newest Minecraft Bedrock version is 26.52 (September 25, 2026). The next one is Bedrock 26.60, which is in beta now. After that comes the Holiday Drop with ice caves, the last game drop of 2026. Mojang hasn't given a date for either one. Based on past releases, 26.60 could arrive around late October or early November, and the Holiday Drop around December.

What is the current Minecraft version?
On Bedrock Edition, which includes Minecraft PE on Android and iPhone, the newest release is 26.52. It is the second hotfix for Wilderness Bound, the game drop that came out on September 15, 2026 with 26.50. Wilderness Bound brought the dappled forest, the poplar tree, abandoned camps, cushions and straw beds.
- 26.50 (September 15): Wilderness Bound.
- 26.51 (September 15): fixed a crash when loading worlds with large fence, pane, bar or wall builds.
- 26.52 (September 25): fixed invisible inventory items, a launch failure on some iPhones, network problems on Switch and cushions vanishing. It also fixed older worlds with Marketplace add-ons losing achievements after 26.50.
You can download it on our Minecraft PE 26.52 page. On Java Edition the newest release is 26.3.
The next update: Bedrock 26.60
Bedrock 26.60 has been in beta since September 2, 2026. The newest test build is 26.60.29 (September 30). Mojang hasn't said when 26.60 comes out.
The betas show what is coming:
- A refreshed main menu, rolled out step by step.
- Faster and more reliable Realms world downloads.
- A new Audio category in the Marketplace for the sound effects packs shown at Minecraft Live.
- Many bug fixes, including an item duplication bug.
- The Holiday Drop's ice caves, but only as an experiment you have to turn on.
Every build is on our Minecraft PE beta page.

After that: the Holiday Drop
The last game drop of 2026 is a winter update. It adds ice caves, icicles, ice crystals, the Frostbite zombie and a new Freezing effect with its own potion and arrows. Mojang calls it "the final game drop of 2026" but hasn't named it or dated it. Everything in it, and how to try it now, is on our Holiday Drop 2026 page.
2027: Minecraft 27 and The Sift
Minecraft versions are numbered by year, so updates in 2027 will start with 27. The big news for 2027 is The Sift, the first new dimension in over 14 years, coming to Java and Bedrock. There is no month yet. See Minecraft's new dimension and our Minecraft 27.0 page.
How often does Minecraft update?
In 2026 Minecraft got a game drop about every three months, with a smaller release in between:
| Bedrock version | Release date | What it was |
|---|
| 26.0 | February 10, 2026 | First year-numbered version |
| 26.10 | March 24, 2026 | Game drop: Tiny Takeover |
| 26.20 | May 5, 2026 | Closed captions, next drop as an experiment |
| 26.30 | June 16, 2026 | Game drop: Chaos Cubed |
| 26.40 | August 4, 2026 | Bug fixes, next drop as an experiment |
| 26.50 | September 15, 2026 | Game drop: Wilderness Bound |
| 26.60 | Not announced | In beta, Holiday Drop as an experiment |
There were about six weeks between releases. If 26.60 follows the same pattern, it lands around late October or early November, and the Holiday Drop around December. Last year's holiday drop came out on December 9, 2025. This is our estimate from past dates, not a date from Mojang.
How to get the next update early
Mojang tests every update in a public beta first. On Android it comes through Google Play: join the beta on the Minecraft page in the Play Store. You can also get the beta APK from our beta page. Back up your worlds first, because test versions can damage them. To see the Holiday Drop features, turn on the "Drop 4 of 2026" experiment in a new world.
