Minecraft New Dimension: The Sift Is Coming in 2027

Short answer: Yes. Minecraft is getting a new dimension called The Sift. Mojang showed it at Minecraft Live on September 26, 2026, and it comes to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition (including Minecraft PE on Android and iPhone) in 2027. There is no exact date yet.

Is there going to be a new dimension in Minecraft?

Yes, for the first time in over 14 years. Minecraft has had three dimensions for a long time: the Overworld, the Nether and the End. The Sift will be the fourth.

Mojang says it is coming to both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027. Bedrock Edition is the version on phones, tablets, consoles and Windows, so Minecraft PE players get it too.

What is The Sift?

Here is everything Mojang has shown so far:

  • A colourful new world. It looks nothing like the Nether or the End.
  • Named areas: the Meadow and the Carapace. Mojang says there are more areas it is keeping secret for players to find.
  • New mobs: some are friendly companions, others are threats. The small creature from the reveal is the Blub, which is a pet in Minecraft Dungeons II.
  • Shifting tides: changes inside The Sift that affect you and the players around you.
  • Dangerous new blocks that change how you explore.

Mojang has not said how you will get to The Sift in Minecraft, or which blocks, items and mobs it will have there. New features usually show up in betas first, so that is where the first real details will come from. You can follow them on our latest beta page.

When does The Sift come to Minecraft?

In 2027. Mojang has not given a month or a version number. Since 2026, Minecraft versions are numbered by year, so the update with The Sift will be a 27-something version. Before that, a smaller update with ice caves comes first. Both are covered on our Minecraft 27.0 page.

Where can I see The Sift right now?

Only in Minecraft Dungeons II, the action spin-off that came out on September 29, 2026. The Sift is part of its story: illagers find a portal underground that leads to The Sift and use its power against the Overworld. You reach it in the game's opening stages.

Minecraft Dungeons II is on PC and consoles only. There is no Android or iPhone version, so on a phone you have to wait for The Sift to come to Minecraft PE in 2027. More on that on our Minecraft Dungeons for mobile page.

Is there a Sift mod or addon I can play now?

Some fan-made addons and mods use the name "The Sift" or add their own new dimension. They are made by players, not by Mojang, and they are not the real Sift. Mojang's version is not in any Minecraft build yet, so a download that claims to be "the official Sift update" today is not real.

Want the newest Minecraft PE now?

When The Sift comes, it will be in a normal Minecraft update. Until then, you can play the newest version today:
