Nether Portal Calculator for Minecraft Bedrock

Updated 29 Sep 2026

Turn Overworld coordinates into Nether ones and back, find where to build a matching portal, and check your saved portals for mislinks on Bedrock.

A Nether portal on Bedrock does not remember where it goes. Each time you step through, the game turns your spot into the other world's numbers: X and Z divided by 8 on the way into the Nether (rounded down), multiplied by 8 on the way out, Y the same. Then it looks for a portal around that spot, 128 blocks each way on X and Z, at every height. On Bedrock that search is 128 blocks on both sides; Java only searches 16 blocks in the Nether. So one Nether portal can catch Overworld portals up to about 1,024 blocks apart. That is why portals on phones and consoles so often send you to the wrong place. The closest portal wins, measured in a straight line with Y counted. If none is found, the game builds a new one within 16 blocks. This calculator converts coordinates both ways, shows exactly where the partner portal should go, warns about the Bedrock Nether roof at Y 127, and checks every pair you save against all the others so you can see a stolen link before you build.

How to use

  1. Type your coordinates into the Overworld or the Nether box. The other box fills in by itself.
  2. In "Link two portals", pick the world your first portal is in and enter its X, Y and Z.
  3. Build the partner at the spot shown. If you built it somewhere else, open "Built it somewhere else?" and enter the real spot.
  4. Read the checks: green means both trips land in the right portal; red tells you which saved portal steals the link.
  5. Press "Save this pair" to keep it in your list. Your list is stored in this browser only.
