The straw bed, which some players call a hay bed, came with the Wilderness Bound update. It solves a problem every explorer knows. You want to skip the night far from home, but sleeping in a normal bed moves your spawn point there. A straw bed lets you sleep without changing your spawn, but you can only use it once.

Which version do you need?
Straw beds are in Minecraft 26.50 and later, including Minecraft PE 26.52.
Straw bed recipe (hay bed)
Put 3 hay bales in a row in a crafting table. You get 4 straw beds. Hay bales are made from 9 wheat each, so a small wheat farm keeps you supplied. Straw beds stack up to 16.

How a straw bed works
- Sleep in it at night to skip to morning, just like a normal bed. It also clears the weather and resets the phantom timer.
- Your spawn point does not change. If you die, you still go back to your real bed.
- It is single use. The bed is gone when you wake up, and also if you get out before morning. It drops nothing.

Do straw beds explode in the Nether?
No. A normal bed explodes when you try to sleep in the Nether or the End, but a straw bed just breaks.

When to use one
- On long trips, so a night out doesn't move your spawn to the middle of nowhere.
- While travelling with a camp map or an explorer map.
- In a friend's world or on a server, when you want to skip a night without changing where you respawn.
Villagers ignore straw beds, so they won't claim them. Hay is cheap, so carry a few on every trip.
