Sulfur caves are the yellow and red cave biome from the Chaos Cubed update. They are full of sulfur and cinnabar blocks, bubbling pools and the bouncy sulfur cube mob. They hide underground, but there is a simple sign on the surface that tells you where one is. Here is how to find them in Minecraft PE.

Which version do you need?
Sulfur caves are part of Minecraft 26.30 (Chaos Cubed, released on June 16, 2026) and every version after it, including the current Minecraft PE 26.52. In 26.20 they were only an experiment.
The easy way: look for a sulfur spring
A sulfur spring is a small pond on the surface ringed with yellow sulfur, red cinnabar, tuff and granite, often with sulfur spikes around it and bubbles in the water. Sulfur springs only generate above a sulfur cave, in any Overworld biome. Find one, dig down nearby, and you will break into the cave below.

Careful at the spring itself: many have a geyser in the middle that launches you into the air.
Where sulfur caves generate
- Depth: about the same depth as lush caves and dripstone caves. They are smaller and more broken up than those two.
- Under flat land: they are common under flat terrain near swamps, deserts and other flatland biomes.
- Not under rivers, oceans, hills or tall mountains. If you are standing on a mountain, go somewhere flatter.
- Very rarely a sulfur cave opens onto the surface, or you can see one from the side of a ravine or a cave entrance.
Inside, the caves have a green fog, and regular ores are rare because sulfur and cinnabar replace most of the stone.

Other ways to get there
Locate command (cheats on)
With cheats on, type /locate biome in chat and pick sulfur caves from the suggestions. Remember that turning cheats on disables achievements in that world.
"Sulfur Cave" seed template
Chaos Cubed added a "Sulfur Cave" seed template on the Create New World screen, so a new world can start close to one.
Playing an old world?
New biomes only generate in chunks that have never been loaded. In a world from before 26.30, explore far away from the places you have already been.
What to bring
- A pickaxe. Sulfur and cinnabar drop nothing without one.
- Torches and armour. Zombies, skeletons, creepers and cave spiders spawn here, besides the sulfur cubes.
- Stay out of the green pools. Potent sulfur at the bottom fills the water with gas that gives you Nausea. If the wobble bothers you, turn down the screen distortion slider in the accessibility settings (added in 26.40).

What you will find inside
- Sulfur and cinnabar, each with a full set of stairs, slabs, walls, polished and brick versions.
- Sulfur spikes hanging from the ceiling and growing from the floor. Stepping on them is harmless, but a falling one hurts.
- Potent sulfur at the bottom of the pools.
- Sulfur cubes, the passive bouncing mob that only lives here. See our sulfur cube guide.
- The "Bounce" music disc, in chest minecarts of mineshafts that run through a sulfur cave.
