How to Make a Cushion in Minecraft PE and Sit on It (26.50)

For years, the only way to "sit" in Minecraft was riding a minecart or a boat. The Wilderness Bound update finally added a real seat: the cushion. Put it down, tap it, and your character sits on it. Here is how to craft one in Minecraft PE and the rules for placing it.

Which version do you need?

Cushions are in Minecraft 26.50 and later. If you use 26.50 or 26.51 and your cushions vanish after you leave and come back, update to Minecraft PE 26.52: that hotfix fixed cushions disappearing when the world reloads.

Cushion recipe

1. Craft wool slabs: 3 wool blocks of one colour in a row make 6 wool slabs.
2. Put 3 wool slabs of the same colour in a row in the crafting table. You get 1 cushion.

Cushions come in all 16 wool colours. To change the colour, craft any cushion with a dye. They stack up to 16.

How to place and sit on a cushion

• Place it on any flat surface. It snaps to the block grid and sits on top of whatever is below, so it works on slabs, stairs, snow layers and even enchanting tables.
• Tap the cushion to sit down.
• While you sit, knockback, pistons, geysers and portals don't move you.

Cushion rules worth knowing

• Cushions have no collision: you can walk through them, and they can overlap other things, except other cushions.
• They cannot be moved. A cushion breaks if the block under it is removed or a piston pushes it.
• One hit breaks a cushion and drops it.
• They burn as furnace fuel, but it takes four cushions to smelt one item.

Where to find free cushions

Abandoned camps have cushions placed around the campfire, in any colour, and their barrels often hold white cushions. See our abandoned camp guide.

Chair and sofa ideas

• Armchair: a cushion on a stair block, with trapdoors or signs on the sides as armrests.
• Sofa: a row of stairs with a cushion on each one.
• Stool: a cushion on a single slab.
• Soft furniture: combine cushions with the new wool stairs and slabs (also added in 26.50) in the same colour.
